“Are you tired? Worn out? Burned out on religion? Come to me. Get away with me and you’ll recover your life. I’ll show you how to take a real rest. Walk with me and work with me—watch how I do it. Learn the unforced rhythms of grace. I won’t lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you’ll learn to live freely and lightly.” Matthew 11:28-30 MSG

Some days you feel the gravity of the earth stronger than others. While the gravity of earth really isn’t any stronger than it normally is, your emotional, physical, mental and spiritual health can make life feel heavy or light—depending on the condition of your heart.

The second entry in Webster’s 1828 dictionary defines rest as, “quiet; repose; a state free from motion or disturbance; a state of reconciliation to God.”

Think about the times you felt closest to God’s heart?

Perhaps it was in the quiet of a night as you laid awake, praying softly. Maybe you sat with your infant nestled close to your heart in the early hours of the morning and you felt Him step near.

Quiet, restful moments in God’s Word, and in his presence lightens your load, frees you from worry and gives you hope. Your spiritual man needs time with Him. Take some time today and reconcile your heart with Him.

Father, thank you for always having time for me. I let go of the heaviness. Show me how to live each day free and light in you.
